About Us
Culture in Stone was founded in 1999 by Hillay Manuhwa, a passionate and well talented Zimbabwean stone sculptor. Hillary has exhibited his work throughout the UK and elsewhere in Europe as well as in the USA and South Africa. Now Hillary work to promote other Zimbabwean and African artists by connecting them to different art markets around the world.
Originating from Harare-Zimbabwe, Culture In Stone is passionate about promoting the work of some of the finest Zimbabwean sculptors. By holding exhibitions around the world and making sculptures available for purchase online, we let you experience some of the finest contemporary Shona stone sculpture. Culture in Stone is the brainchild of Hillary Manuhwa who has had a great passion and talent in stone sculpture and art in general from a very young age.
We work with Shona stone from different parts of Zimbabwe. The stone contains many rich colours and variations within it. Shona stone is named after the largest tribe engaged in sculpting stone in Zimbabwe, the only country on the African continent that has large deposits of serpentine stone suitable for sculpting.
